The earliest dream that I can recall is also one of my most vivid. I cannot remember my exact age when I experienced this dream, however, it was during my early years in elementry school. I know this because the setting of this particular dreamscape was in the grounds around my childhood school.
The dream begins as I ride a bike through a forest trail. Suddenly I fall from my bike and lay there helplessly. Apparently I am not alone, however, as my mother and her friends pedal by. Offering no assistance, instead, my mom scoffs at me dissaprovingly as her and her friends drift by. Following the group are my two sisters who, taking a cue from mom, offer nasty comments rather than assistance as they too drift by.
Now I am left alone. A breeze runs through the trees as my mind clears. A brief and calming pause fades as my attention directs to billowing smoke coming from a chimney in the distance. Without a second thought I lift myself into the air and fly towards the smoke.
I land on the rooftop of a building which, in the waking world, is a 19th century style schoolhouse reserved for first graders. However, in my dream world this is the home of a witch. The billowing smoke means she is boiling up something in her cauldron.
Suddenly a wave of fear passes over me so I lift up again and fly away. Rushed and scared, I quickly fly over the school grounds. The soccer field rushes by underneath as I make my great escape. With a distracted mind I do not take notice of the fast approacing chain-link fence until it is too late. I smash head first into the boundary of unreality and tumble back into my bed in my room-safe and sound and on solid ground.
This dream represents the birth of the alter-ego that exists within my self and manifests within my dreams. It is the earliest experience I can recall that I am introduced to the limitless power of my uninhibited mind. Eventually I become aware of this alter-ego when I begin lucid dreaming. At this point I take control of my alternate reality. Since then my alter-ego has experienced elaborate adventures, developed amazing abilities, and taken on different forms.
